Good morning, Oxford. Here's 9 live shows, 3 good news stories & a great result for OUFC!

Here's what you need to know...

01 - Weather ☂

Showers and clouds…

The weather is a bit cooler than over the weekend. Keep a jacket on and don’t get caught out in the showers today and tomorrow.

It must improve soon, right?

Here’s what’s been happening in Oxford…

New city centre life sciences hub plans revealed

Planning applications have gone in to the city council to tear down three city centre buildings and replace them with a shiny new science facility.

The project is located close to the train station and the Oxford University’s Saïd Business School. They also include a public garden, café, and community space.

A decision on the proposals is set to be made by the end of June.

£2.3m boost for Oxfordshire walkers and cyclists

Great news for residents of Abingdon and Witney this week, as funding has been signed off from Active Travel England to improve surfaces and lighting on cycleways.

It is the latest phase of an ongoing project that has already put £14m worth of grants into the county.

Speaking to the Oxford Mail, Bill Cotton, Oxfordshire County Council’s director for environment and place, said:

"Active travel is essential to help us tackle traffic congestion and air quality across the county, and to make it a natural first choice for short journeys.”

"We must make it work for people."

Oxford (rightly!) named as one of the most popular cities to visit in 2024

We already knew it, but it’s always nice to see that the wider population agrees… Oxford is where it’s at!

In YouGov’s recent ‘Most Popular Cities’ poll Oxford ranks fifth overall, behind York, Edinburgh, London and Cambridge, with a ‘fame’ rating of 98% and ‘popularity’ at 61%.

When you dig into the filters, the city is particularly popular with Baby Boomers, but falls a little short with the younger generations.
